Camp Description: The YMCA of Greater New York is the largest youth-service organization in NYC. The organization has grown to encompass 23 branches and more than 140 sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City in addition to three camp sites and an upstate conference center.

Job Description and Required Certifications: The West Side YMCA is seeking a qualified individual who will be responsible for the overall leadership of the day camp program, including supervision of staff and volunteers, fiscal management and day-to-day operations. The Director is charged with ensuring the delivery of quality programming, that includes all Y funder program elements, including but not limited to STEM, Move to Improve and Common Core. S/he is expected to develop and maintain effective relationships with a variety of Y Staff, school partners, funders, donors, parents and guardians, community members and other organizations. Primary Responsibilities: • Supervise and support camp staff, including Unit Leaders, Coordinators, Counselors and Specialist. • Ensure that the facility is kept clean and safe, based on the Y standards and Risk Management requirements, so that children are in a safe and comfortable environment. • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs. Report all incidents in accordance with the Y policies and procedures. • Ensure that all staff follow the guidelines regarding summer trips and travel. • Adhere to all Y Camp, Youth, Teen, HR and Risk Management standards, as well as Department of Health (DOH) and Out of School Time (OST) standards, if applicable. • Develop and implement an orientation session for families and campers on or before the first day of camp, which includes safety procedures, ground rules, schedules and other necessary information. • Participate in planning and implementation of all camp activities, including but not limited to summer learning initiatives, field trips and in-camp events. • Handle discipline issues with campers when they occur based on Y polices and youth development best practices. • Regularly communicate to guardians through clear and positive written and verbal messages. • Authorize weekly staff schedules. • Manage payroll expense by regularly reviewing and approving hours worked in eTIME. • Ensure that the camp program includes engaging and educational program elements, including but not limited to STEM, Move to Improve and summer reading. • Manage and track volunteer hours. • Attend 40 hours of pre-camp staff training. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field. • Must have at least two years of experience in management and supervision of a high volume day camp. • Day Camp Director Y-USA Certification is mandatory.

Salary Information: $600.00+ P/W
