Camp Description: Leslie Marrowbone Memorial YMCA Camp is dedicated to serving and supporting the children and youth of the Cheyenne River Reservation by ensuring a safe, positive, fun and energetic summer camp experience. Through cultural educational activities, outdoor education, games and various forms of art we strive to offer our campers opportunities for creativity, self-discovery ad a sense of belonging. YMCA Camp Marrowbone is situated on a hillside overlooking Lake Oahe surrounded by stunning, natural open prairie. The 8-15 year old campers and counselors live in traditional tipis during their weeklong stay. There is a fully equipped kitchen with stove, electric refrigerators, city water, phone, and lights. Meals are eaten in an open pavilion that also serves as a meeting and activity area. The Tri-Building houses the camp office, staff lounge, the Arts n' Craft room and a Sports room for athletic and aquatic equipment. In 2001, a new, larger, cinder block storm shelter was built in case of severe weather conditions. The Camp is 70 miles one-way from the Sioux YMCA main office in Dupree.

Job Description and Required Certifications: The LIT Supervisor will work directly with the Camp Director and the Cook to coordinate and oversee the LIT daily schedule, responsibilities, and specific LIT programming. In the mornings, between breakfast and lunch, and in the evenings, LITs will have separate leadership and responsibility themed activities. A variety of skills are expected in most of the following areas: Active listening techniques, arts and crafts, sports, games, music, storytelling, environmental education, and large and small group activities. Above all, an LIT Supervisor must have a sincere and energetic desire to have a quality-oriented and consistent experience with youth. Above all, a counselor must have a sincere and energetic desire to have a quality-oriented and consistent experience with children. Minimum age: 18 years of age at time of employment Current CPR and First Aid certificates at time of employment (or during camp training) Must complete mandatory staff training help prior to camp starting date and any in service training held during the camp season Must attend the YMCA Child Abuse Awareness Training (part of staff training) Read and be familiar with Camp Leslie Marrowbone Camp staff manual received during training Major Functions: 1. Supervise up to 10 LITs and be responsible for their health and safety at all times 2. Plan and prepare a variety of camp activities appropriate for LITs 3. Plan activities for camp-wide participation 4. Attend training, staff meeting and special events as scheduled 5. Be responsible for care and maintenance of equipment and site 6. Complete camp evaluation at end of summer 7. Act as role model, representing Sioux YMCA and Camp Leslie Marrowbone 8. Participate in pre-camp community promotions Physical Demands: Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities, which include hiking, canoeing, swimming, rustic construction, building campfires, physical games, and activities Must have the ability to transport, restrain, and physically support children and staff when needed for safety purposes in general camp activities and group initiative activities (person weighing 50-200 pounds. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Counselor will be expected to sleep in tipis or cabins with their group. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, wind and other conditions related to the outdoor environment.
Salary Information: $225-250/ week based upon experience
