Camp Description: YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa is one of a handful of YMCA Family Camps in the country. The camp is located on the Lac du Flambeau Native American reservation in northern WI and rests between two crystal clear lakes. It is surrounded by forest lands, the wildlife is splendid, and families travel to Nawakwa to rest and escape from their busy American lives. There are 35 individual rental cabins, one retreat center, and two recreational lodges that include the camp store. Summer family camp is Nawakwa’s bread and butter, and the fall, winter, and spring programming is ripe for growth. Popular summer programs include the weekly boat in breakfast, triathlon, water carnival, opening and closing ceremonies, and tie dye. Fall, winter, and spring emerging programs include the home school week, women’s retreat, fall harvest weekend, and winter family camps. Nawakwa also hosts an annual free Family Fun day for the Lac du Flambeau community. Over two million dollars in new construction and renovations have occurred over the past 15 years. Nawakwa’s facilities and grounds are modern and clean which is important to the camp’s operation. The need for a Program Director, who has strong programming and administrative leadership skills, is essential to the continued success and growth of Nawakwa.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Camp Executive Director coordinates and directs the use of YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa for summer family camp, fall, winter, spring programs, special event groups, the camp store, program marketing, and all other camp program activities. Ensure the safety and welfare of all campers. Carry out the mission of YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa. Scope of Responsibilities: • Ensure procedures, policies, and public relations at all times. • Responsible for the development, implementation, management, growth and evaluation of all assigned camp programs to include summer family camp, fall, winter, spring programs, special events, and other programs as developed or assigned. • Serve as resident host to facilitate a quality experience for all campers, including all family campers and rental groups (includes weekends and nights). Reside on camp property during the summer family camp months and program events during the fall, winter, and spring months. • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising part-time and/or seasonal staff. • Act as a team member, working closely with other staff on all interrelated matters • Responsible for a budget, achieving revenue goals, and maintain control of expenses. • Responsible for the marketing of camp programs. This includes preparation and dissemination of camp literature as well as communicating in person and on the phone to potential family campers and rental groups. Digital marketing including e-mail and website promotions is integral to the job. • Responsible for networking with the local Native American community and implementing programs with a Native American emphasis. • Responsible for the overall supervision of camp cleanliness and equipment care. • Responsible for the management of the camp store • Must have skills in developing relationships with families and other groups to help with camper retention. • Work with the Camp Executive to learn all facets of the Nawakwa family camp. A desire to improve the camp operation and maintain a safe and professional environment is essential to the position. An eye and ear for top notch customer service is imperative. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required. At least 2-3 years experience in a camp setting is preferred. Supervisory experience required and YMCA experience helpful. Ability to work with both youth and adults alike is necessary. Must be willing to work nights and weekends.
