Camp Description: Camp Wa Wa Segowea is embarking on the next chapter in its 100 year history, as the Northwestern CT YMCA takes over the operation of this historic program. Utilizing its setting on nearly 500 acres of scenic property, including a 30-acre private lake, we look forward to providing an exceptional camping experience. Camp Wa Wa Segowea values the development of every child in Spirit, Mind, & Body; we incorporate the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in everything we do. Every child is unique, yet every child has the same critical need to discover who they are, stretch their wings and prepare for life ahead. Job Description and Required Certifications: JOB DESCRIPTION: The Unit Leader provides safe and quality camp experiences for all, by directing a camper unit, fulfills staff leadership roles, supervises & evaluates staff & campers. The Unit Leader/ LIT Leader provides a quality program to children, staff, and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, consistent with the YMCA Mission and the YMCA Cause. The Unit Leader will provide a safe and nurturing environment for everyone and will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities. QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS: 1. At least 21 years of age. 2. Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer & First Aid Certifications Previous experience supervising campers and staff. 3. Previous experience working with diverse populations 4. Previous experience as a Unit Leader or related position in a summer camp or related field. 5. Ability to effectively work in a developmentally appropriate way with children ages 7-16. 6. Ability to teach leadership development skills. 7. Knowledge and skills in teambuilding 8. YMCA Working with Youth Ages 5-12, certification or the equivalent training and experience preferred. 9. Principles of YMCA Youth Work: Working with Teens 12-17 certification or the equivalent training and experience preferred.
