Camp Description: Camp Wa Wa Segowea is embarking on the next chapter in its 100 year history, as the Northwestern CT YMCA takes over the operation of this historic program. Utilizing its setting on nearly 500 acres of scenic property, including a 30-acre private lake, we look forward to providing an exceptional camping experience. Job Description and Required Certifications: JOB DESCRIPTION: The Cabin Leader/Lifeguard provides safe and quality camp experiences for all, by leading a camper cabin and by providing a safe aquatics environment while lifeguarding. Provides a quality program to children, staff, and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, consistent with the YMCA Mission and the YMCA Cause. The Cabin Leader/ Lifeguard will provide a safe and nurturing environment for everyone and will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities. QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS: 1. At least 17 years of age for junior cabin leader, 18 years of age for senior cabin leader. 2. Skills or experience in the participation of or the leading of one or more activities, offered at camp, in the program areas of: sports, aquatics, outdoor life, or arts and crafts. 3. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. 4. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA Standards. 5. Ability to teach classes in one or more of aquatics program areas of camp: swim lessons, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, or power boat operation. 6. YMCA Lifeguard Certification or the equivalent*, if having an equivalent certification, must crossover to YMCA Lifeguard prior to the arrival of the campers. 7. YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor or Small Craft Certification(s) preferred. 8. Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Oxygen & First Aid Certifications. 9. Previous experience working with children preferred. *Equivalents accepted from any National Recognized Certifying Agency such as American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, & Royal Life Saving Society, etc
