YMCA Camp Classen enjoys a rich history, celebrating its 70th Anniversary in 2011. YMCA Camp Classen is located midway between Oklahoma City and Dallas on 2,140 acres in the Arbuckle mountains with waterfalls, lakes, open meadows, and miles of hiking and horseback trails.

Job Description and Required Certifications: YMCA Camp Classen hires interns in the fall for our Outdoor School program. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in all aspects of camping. With a relatively small full-time staff, our interns are key to our operation and are expected to offer professional level work. Duties will primarily involve hosting and facilitating activities for our Outdoor School groups. Interns will be trained, among other things, to lead all camp activities, teach our educational hiking trails, and provide excellent guest service for our groups with a variety of needs. As the semester progresses, interns will have the opportunity to take on more responsibility concerning upfront communication and planning with the school principal or group leader. Interns will also be involved in some aspects of planning, marketing, and program and curriculum development for outdoor school and summer camp. Interns will participate in staff meetings as well as staff devotionals. Educational experiences will be offered depending on interns’ specific interests. If not previously certified, interns will be certified in CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration. Camp Classen will be hiring 4 interns for our fall outdoor school season. Dates of employment will be August 30, 2012 – December 5, 2012.

Salary Information: For the Fall 2012 internship, interns will work the equivalent of 5 days each week. Employees will work and be involved with the retreat guests every other weekend. When an intern works over the weekend, he or she will still have the equivalent of 2 days off during the week. Compensation will include a weekly stipend of $250, housing, and food anytime groups are on grounds (about 90% of meals in the fall).
