Job Description

How You will Power our Purpose (Job Summary):

The Associate Vice President of Operations is a transformative leader driving the successful execution of organizational strategic outcomes. You oversee operational efficiency and program excellence and create a transformative Y experience that builds loyal members, energizes employees and volunteers, inspires donors, and stimulates growth and innovation at two YMCA Center locations and a product/program line.. You are responsible for leading, coaching, and holding others accountable for creating a transformative Y experience at your assigned centers and programs. You are the chief leader in driving the Y experience in your communities. You will lead your leadership teams (staff and volunteers) in building engaged boards, philanthropy and fundraising, innovation and product development, and community partnerships. In addition to providing oversight of your assigned centers and programs, you will be responsible for association-wide functions, initiatives, and innovation projects.

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Community Enterprise:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of professional work experience including at least 5 years of experience in a YMCA executive-level position or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment and mastery to coach highly competent professional staff in the areas of membership and program
  • Expertise in board development, fiscal management, community engagement, and staff development.
  • Experience in growing membership and program enrollment and solid fiscal management (has met or exceeded budget continuously over multiple years).
  • Thorough understanding of the nature of the YMCA movement, volunteers, and staff in the accomplishment of the YMCA goals, objectives, and mission in the community.
  • Experience in and/or willingness to learn Design Thinking.

Strategic Leadership & Results (40%)

Performance Achievement & Results

  • Responsible for hiring, coaching, and managing all direct reports and ensuring alignment with association people practices for all positions within their organizational structure.
  • Responsible for successful Strategic Plan metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to meet strategic goals and objectives.
  • Implements a goal-based leadership approach (OKR methodology) and ensures the development department is actively working towards supporting organizational level objectives and key results. Conducts Cycle Check-ins and the Annual Check-In with direct reports to ensure progress with OKRs, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, and discuss development opportunities.

Operational Leadership

  • Oversees membership and program enrollment growth while ensuring a high-quality and transformative Y Experience as demonstrated by net-promoter scores and other experience metrics member satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular assessments of program effectiveness and make adjustments as needed.
  • Partner with the business administration support group to develop and implement processes and programs for addressing member concerns and feedback.
  • Create an action plan using member feedback survey results to continuously improve program quality and satisfaction.
  • Conducts quarterly meetings with center and program leadership to discuss other providers in the service areas along with their offerings, value proposition, and key attributes, developing an action plan on how the Y remains relevant in its programs and services.

Fiscal Management

  • Leads center and program leadership in developing annual budgets according to association instructions and ensures successful execution of the plan.
  • Ensures centers and programs identify growth opportunities, conduct monthly forecasting, and correct financial deficiencies on a timely basis.
  • Develops and reviews monthly variance reports with the implementing action plans to stay on plan with the annual budget.

Marketing

  • Ensures centers and programs execute all aspects of association and center (program) marketing strategies and
  • Regularly promotes Y centers through local media outlets and
  • Ensures implementation of internal marketing efforts (i.e., activating staff for referral programs) and consistent social media engagement through branch channels

Facility Management

  • Ensure centers are keeping facilities and equipment well maintained, safe and clean, following association guidelines and practices.
  • Conducts a monthly walkthrough of centers and quarterly walkthrough with the executive team.

Community/Board Engagement & Philanthropy (20%)

  • Enhances the Y's reputation in the community by engaging with partners, businesses, school districts, and other non-profit organizations that are invested in strengthening the community (e.g., serving on the local chamber, building relationships with local, city, and county officials and representatives)
  • Assesses community landscape by developing a deep understanding of community-area demographics, keeping a pulse on demographic and external environmental shifts, and local economic trends.
  • Drives the cultivation and implementation of community partnerships for assigned centers, programs, and the
  • Partners with youth development leaders to build strong partnerships with school districts and other educational entities.
  • Recruits, develops, and maintains highly effective Boards of Advisors, following the by-laws of the Greater Austin YMCA.
  • Supports board chairs in facilitating an engaging and productive board meeting Regularly attends board meetings according to the annual plan.
  • Drives successful fund-raising and financial development, working with the Associate.
  • Collaborates with Advancement Team, to meet quarter and annual objectives. 
  • Meets every quarter with the Advancement Team to ensure progress toward the fundraising goal. 

Association Initiatives (20%)

  • Leads association-wide efforts as the Association-level Partner for your assigned program/product line, functional area, and/or social innovation projects.
  • Serve as the Association Partner, leading impact teams, committees, work groups, and/or tasksforces. Association Partners are responsible for driving a workgroup/team to results across the organization.

Social Innovation (20%)

  • Leads design thinking and social entrepreneurship practices to develop innovative solutions to community needs, community, and association-wide opportunities and challenges.
  • Works to master, demonstrate, and coach others in design thinking and social entrepreneurship to establish a strong culture of social innovation.
  • Serves as project lead for assigned innovation projects designed to incubate new products, services and improve systems and processes.
  • Stays current on trend identification and implications for their communities and centers in the following areas: Membership, Health and Wellness, Youth and Family Programs, Youth Sports, and other programs and initiatives operated by their assigned centers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pay Range $130,000 - $137,000 annual salary, DOE
