YMCA: YMCA of Jackson

Job Description:

Successful candidate must have experience with implementation of a strategic plan, through engaging a volunteer Board of directors to create a living plan for the YMCA association that will address the decline of membership and programs and collaboration and partnerships in the Jackson, Trenton and Brownsville area. The plan should provide the blueprint for implementing the YMCA mission, goals, and values and for expanding the impact the YMCA has within the whole community. Establish clear objectives for completing each aspect of the planning process. Work with the Board to establish an ongoing implementation plan for each major strategic initiative and a process to monitor results.

Improve operating performance by creating and implementing a process for tracking key metrics and a plan to achieve each major objective. Experience with solid growth and proven fiscal responsibility is critical to the success of the candidate. Establish a process to create and monitor the budget and control costs. Implement an annual budget to ensure that the YMCA consistently operates on a balanced budget.

Evaluate the current strengths and weaknesses of all key staff and create a plan for individual staff development, including potential key changes in organization and position. Create a plan to ensure that the YMCA has an outstanding, dedicated, and culturally competent staff. Establish an individual development plan for each direct report. Hire, motivate, nurture, retain, and hold staff accountable for key objectives. Encourage the team by creating a spirit of camaraderie and sense of mission/purpose.

Within 12 - 18 months of hire the candidate must establish realistic plans in three key areas:

1.Talent Development Plan - Create individualized plans for all direct reports that plays on their strengths and develops opportunities for growth. Talent is not only within the staff and volunteer team but within the partnership and collaborations with other non-profits, civic organizations, businesses, school districts and churches.

2.Grant Funding Plan - Aggressive strategy to identify needs of the community, assess the resources of the YMCA and solicit funding necessary to deliver desired programs and services.

3.Financial Development Plan - Annual financial development plan that encompasses; endowment planning, special events, annual support campaign, creative mission driven programs and events.

Minimum Criteria for Candidates:

  1. Accredited 4-year college degree.
  2. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission and values.
  3. Minimum five years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
  4. Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  5. Have the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.

Preferred Criteria for Candidates:

  1. YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (or obtain within 3 years from hire).
  2. Fiscally sound business management approach.
  3. Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
  4. A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $500K or more annually.

Salary: $60,000 - $60,000

Additional Compensation Details:

Salary is commensurate with experience. There is an aggressive performance plan tied to merit increase up to 7.5% from the first year of hire.
