Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Ruth Lilly YMCA Outdoor Center, the Program Director will be responsible for living on-site and overseeing the daily management and leadership of all Outdoor Education programs, participants and staff, and oversee non-summer programming, including but not limited to environmental education and groups and conferences. In addition, the Program Director will assist in providing and training staff and volunteers to conduct adventure programming during resident camp, including offsite trips and excursions. The Program Director will be accountable for the development and administration of the departments, program development and promotion, implementation and evaluation, staff scheduling and supervision, and financial operation in accordance with Center and Association goals, objectives and policies. The Program Director must understand their role in helping build relationships and a small community atmosphere among our members.

Job Requirements:

This position requires a bachelor's degree in Child Development, Recreation, Elementary Education, Environmental Studies or related field, or its equivalent in work experience, and 2-4 years previous experience with the YMCA or a similar agency. The position requires broad knowledge and experience in the field of camping, with an extensive nature science skill set, and prior experience in the development and administration of environmental education programs. Applicant must have basic programming skills with special emphasis on youth and family activities, as well as experience in a residential camp setting. The ability to relate to all age groups is essential. The successful candidate will hold certifications related to adventure programming and/or be willing and able to obtain them upon hire. Knowledge of the American Camping Association (ACA) guidelines preferred. Experience in the supervision and training of volunteer and paid staff, fiscal management and program development is essential. An understanding of group work and team-building is also important. The need exists to be current with community trends.

Due to the diversity of responsibility, a high degree of organizational ability is needed. Strong skills are necessary in supervision, management, income production, expense control, public relations, promotion, public speaking, communication skills, fund-raising, grant writing and record-keeping.

Housing is provided

Salary: $32,932 - $41,165
