Job Description and Required Certifications: The Food Service Director manages all aspects of the kitchen for retreat center and summer camp. The kitchen operates year round, serving up to 3 meals per day for groups ranging in size from 10 to 350 people. Most meals are served buffet or family style with the occasional formal wedding table service. The position requires the ability to work alone to cater for small groups and lead a team to prepare meals for larger groups and camp. Must be able to provide wholesome, nutritional meals (including vegetarian, vegan and other special diets) for all participants. The Food Service Director assists the Executive Director and Associate Executive Director with operations, policies, programs, projects, schedule and budget preparation to maintain the food and labor costs as budgeted (or better) with the highest quality and consistent results. Provides exceptional service to guests and campers at all times. Meets with group leaders seeking feedback on meal quality. Maintain certification of sanitation in accordance with County, State and America Camping Association (ACA) standards. Suitable candidate will oversee all food service operations including purchasing, menu planning, meal preparation, budgeting, staffing and supervision. Primary Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalence, minimum of five years experience in food service management (experience as a banquet or retreat center chef preferred), Safe Serve Certification or ability to attain certification 90 days after hire (safe serve instructor preferred). Must be an effective communicator with excellent verbal, written, and problem solving skills. Detail-oriented and organized. Weekend and evening work is required. Must be able to lift and carry 35 lbs. Overhead work required.
