Job Description and Required Certifications: The McBurney YMCA is seeking qualified individuals who will be responsible for the overall supervision of campers and is an influential role model that directly impacts the campers overall camp experience. The Day Camp Counselor will also be responsible for the planning and execution of the day to day activities at camp. Responsibilities: Provide daily supervision of campers by creating an environment of safe space, encouragement, engagement, structure and fun. Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns or problems concerning campers and facilities. Perform specific scheduled assignments, including but not limited to swimming, lunch duty and arrival and/or departure. Regularly engage campers in activities based on youth development and age appropriate best practices. Develop and implement engaging and educational program elements, including but not limited to STEM, Move to Improve and summer reading. Be knowledgeable in all aspects of the job by keeping him/her-self informed as to what is happening within the groups they supervise. Be a consistent role model for campers. Ensure that facility is kept clean and safe, based on the Y standards and Risk Management requirements, so that children are in a safe and comfortable environment. Ensure that campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs. Report all incidents in accordance with the Y policies and procedures. Ensure that the guidelines regarding summer trips and travel are adhered to. Adhere to all Y Camp, Youth, Teen, HR and Risk Management standards, as well as Department of Health (DOH) and Out of School Time (OST) standards (if applicable). Participate in planning and implementation of all camp activities, including but not limited to summer learning initiatives, field trips and in-camp events. Regularly communicate to guardians through clear and positive verbal messages. Attend 30 hours of pre-camp staff training. Qualifications: High school Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of one year of work experience. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be prepared to go into the pool!
Salary Information: $8.88 P/H - $11.10 P/H
