Camp Description: The YMCA of Greater New York is the largest youth-service organization in NYC. The organization has grown to encompass 23 branches and more than 140 sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City in addition to three camp sites and an upstate conference center.

Job Description and Required Certifications: The Staten Island YMCA – South Shore is seeking qualified individuals who will be responsible for planning and executing recreational or arts activities and providing overall supervision of campers. Positions available in drama & dance, arts & crafts, and sports & outdoor games. Responsibilities: • Provide leadership, instructions and lessons within a specific field or discipline. • Supervise, participate and administer recreational or arts activities for children in grades Pre-K to 8. Plan activities and events that are exciting, challenging and value based. • Work cooperatively with camp leadership, counselors and other departments. • Perform specific scheduled assignments, including but not limited to swimming, lunch duty and arrival and/or departure. • Keep immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns or problems concerning campers and facilities. • Regularly engage campers in activities based on youth development and age appropriate best practices. • Be knowledgeable in all aspects of the job by keeping him/her-self informed as to what is happening within the groups they supervise. • Be a consistent role model for campers. • Ensure that facility is kept clean and safe, based on the Y standards and Risk Management requirements, so that children are in a safe and comfortable environment. • Ensure that campers know and follow safety procedures during camp programs. Report all incidents in accordance with the Y policies and procedures. • Ensure that the guidelines regarding summer trips and travel are adhered to. • Adhere to all Y Camp, Youth, Teen, HR and Risk Management standards, as well as Department of Health (DOH) and Out of School Time (OST) standards, if applicable. • Participate in planning and implementation of all camp activities, including but not limited to summer learning initiatives, field trips and in-camp events. • Attend 30 hours of pre-camp staff training. Qualifications: • High School Diploma; college preferred. • Two years of experience coordinating program specific activities, preferably in an academic, after school, camp or recreational setting.

Salary Information: $9.00 P/H - $20.00 P/H
