Camp Description: YMCA Camp Shore focuses on building relationships between campers and providing them an opportunity to learn new skills and have fun. We proudly host our camp on the grounds of the Valley Shore YMCA. Our campers can enjoy more than 20 acres of wooded land, ball fields, ropes courses, indoor swimming pools, and lots of traditional summer camp amenities.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director is responsible for the safe operation and instruction of all day camp activities in accordance with camp policies. This position supervises • 10-15 part-time staff (counselors & Instructors) • Oversight/Supervise main camp for campers ages 4-13 • Scheduling of events and activities for the Day Camp and Specialty Camps • Evaluating and providing support to seasonal camp staff • Supervising check-in & check-out of campers • Provide customer service to parents and contracted businesses • Provides planning, execution, and evaluation of the day-to-day programmatic and logistical operations of the summer day camp & specialty camp programs for Y Camp Shore. Experience • The Assistant Day Camp Director must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Educational background suited to the requirements of the position, Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Experience in camp, outdoor center, environmental educations, recreation/and or ropes course programming preferred. Experience in developing and implementing a variety of Youth and/or family programs preferred. Employee must possess an active ability to multi-task while exhibiting the core values of the YMCA. In order to guide Y Camp Shore to becoming a premier camp, the Assistant Day Camp Director must possess superb skills in coordinating the proper planning, execution and documentation of summer day camp programs. Applicant should have experience maintaining proper relations between Y Camp Shore and all groups to ensure program support and satisfaction. We require an ambitious and high energy person with excellent oral and written communication skills to support outstanding human relations, operational and programming. Must be available to work hours ranging 7 am-6 pm and some weekends for training purposes. It should be understood that this job description has been developed as an outline of basic responsibilities. Additional duties may be assigned by the Camp Director from time to time as deemed appropriate and/or necessary. Job Duties • Participate/Supervise pre-camp training and planning process. • Responsible for the safety and well-being of all campers and staff throughout the camp program. • Abide by all Y Camp Shore policies and procedures, as well as standard set forth by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and other Camp governing bodies. • Supervision of campers and counselors during all activities and specialty programs. • Lead by example • Evaluation of counselors in a constructive way, giving and listening to any feedback. • Organizing and insuring a high level of standards in all activities, themes, meals and specialty programs. • Establishes and implements methods of staff motivation during the summer months. • Assist peers with various responsibilities. • Evaluation of the camp program with weekly evaluations and by gaining feedback from parents and campers weekly. • When needed, gives Counselors breaks in their day to insure healthy staff for the duration of the summer • Maintains visibility during check in and check out to help parents and Campers.

Salary Information: $14.50/hr - 35-40 hours/week. This is a seasonal position.
