Camp Location: Gig Harbor, WA

Camp Description: YMCA Camp Seymour occupies 160 acres and a half mile of Puget Sound shoreline on the Key Peninsula, 30 minutes from Tacoma. We build self esteem and encourage collaboration through activities such as kayaking, canoeing, climbing on our 37 foot climbing wall, archery, swimming in our heated pool, arts and crafts, soccer, basketball, trip and paddle programs, and so much more. Additionally, Seymour boasts spectacular environmental learning opportunities, with a garden, marine touch tanks, almost 80 acres of evergreen forests and a reptile room. Our recently renovated cabins have heat and indoor plumbing. Since 1905, Camp Seymour has provided and continues to provide opportunities for staff and campers to learn and grow together in a beautiful setting where the water, trees and mountains come together.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Directly supervise, support, and mentor a group of 4-16 cabin staff. Work with Camp Director to organize & implement overall camp program. Specific Responsibilities – Job Tasks Staff Development - Take active leadership role in staff orientation; co-lead a Family Group. - Supervision of staff will include coaching, teaching, modeling, reinforcing, and correcting behavior. Establishing, communicating and positively reinforcing performance standards for staff. - Maintain weekly observations on staff performance; give staff positive and constructive feedback. - Conduct a mid-summer and end of summer evaluation with 8-12 cabin leaders. - Listen to staff ideas; with Leadership Staff and Camp Director actively work to improve the all camp program and camp culture. - Make a conscious effort to get to know staff as individuals: interests, working style, strengths, areas for improvement. Minimum Qualifications - Age 18+ - Two summers previous camp staff experience or equivalent. - Integrity, patience, adaptability, sense of humor, enthusiasm, and a commitment to serve youth. - Current 1st aid & CPR for duration of the season strongly preferred. Lifeguard certification preferred. - Specialized and practical knowledge of/ experience in: cabin leadership, child behavior, peer leadership and supervision; staff management & motivation. - Human relation skills: Ability to train, motivate, support, share insights & ideas with, and supervise resident camp staff; communicate openly with supervisor; organize, facilitate, and evaluate camp, unit, and other activities; support and connect with campers; perform duties as specified in job description and by supervisor; behave as an appropriate positive role model in all camp activities.

Salary Information: $225-300/week + depending on qualifications
