Camp Description: YMCA Camp Seymour occupies 160 acres and a half mile of Puget Sound shoreline on the Key Peninsula, 30 minutes from Tacoma. We build self esteem and encourage collaboration through activities such as kayaking, canoeing, climbing on our 37 foot climbing wall, archery, swimming in our heated pool, arts and crafts, soccer, basketball, trip and paddle programs, and so much more. Additionally, Seymour boasts spectacular environmental learning opportunities, with a garden, marine touch tanks, almost 80 acres of evergreen forests and a reptile room. Our recently renovated cabins have heat and indoor plumbing. Since 1905, Camp Seymour has provided and continues to provide opportunities for staff and campers to learn and grow together in a beautiful setting where the water, trees and mountains come together.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Lives and works in a cabin/yurt, with a co-leader, to provide constructive, responsible leadership and guidance for a cabin group of 10-12 teens ages 13-17. Develops camper character and values; fosters cabin community, encourages group leadership, and develops stewardship. Instructs 1-2 skills classes (Camptivities). Facilitates group discussions and activities related to values, leadership, and self-awareness. Provides a quality experience to campers & families focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun. Minimum Qualifications Minimum age of 18. Experience with child leadership and/or related activities required. Specialized and practical knowledge of/ experience in: camper and peer leadership, group and interpersonal dynamics, child behavior, and typical camp activities (crafts, boating, songs, outdoor cooking, archery, swimming, group games). Outstanding ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Integrity, patience, adaptability, sense of humor, enthusiasm, and a commitment to serve youth. Ability to positively motivate, support and connect with campers; perform duties as specified in job description and by supervisor; communicate openly with supervisor; relate well to parents and other staff; behave as an appropriate positive role model in all camp activities. Sensitivity to the needs of families including adults and children. Current 1st aid & CPR for duration of the season strongly preferred. Lifeguard certification preferred. YMCA required trainings including Child Abuse Prevention training (within 60 days) and Blood borne Pathogen Training (within 90 days). Physical Demands: Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
Salary Information: $225-300/week + depending on qualifications
