Job Description and Required Certifications: The YMCA of Greater New York is the largest youth-service organization in NYC. The organization has grown to encompass 21 branches and more than 140 sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City in addition to three camp sites and an upstate conference center. The New York YMCA Camp, located in Huguenot, New York, is seeking for an experienced individual who will be responsible for supervising and managing all aspects of safety and programs at the camp waterfront, within guidelines of the NYS Health Department, American Camping Association and the YMCA of Greater New York. The Director will also be responsible for assessing each camper’s and staff mentor’s swimming ability to determine appropriate swim levels and approved water activities. Responsibilities: • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of campers, by providing close supervision of all program activities. • Develop and operate a well-planned program of instruction in swimming and small crafts. • Test and classify staff and campers swimming ability. • Supervise camp staff assigned to the waterfront as lifeguards, lookouts and/or instructors in canoeing, boating, sailing and water-skiing. • Train and supervise staff in water safety and swim instruction. • Maintain waterfront facilities and equipment to comply with all ACA and Department of Health safety codes and standards. • Complete and submit, to the Camp Director, any required evaluations and accurate inventories at the end of the camp season. • Participate and provide leadership to the total swim program. Qualifications: • High School diploma or equivalent; college graduate or in pursuit of college degree preferred. • Three years lifeguard experience, open water preferred. • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications. • Minimum of 21 years of age. • Effective and clear communication skills.

Salary Information: $275.00 P/W
