Camp Description: The New York YMCA Camp serves a diverse group of children composed mostly of New York City children in a globally diverse community built upon the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The New York YMCA Camp is located on 1,100 forested acres 86 miles northeast of New York City where New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania share a border.

Job Description and Required Certifications: The YMCA of Greater New York is the largest youth-service organization in NYC. The organization has grown to encompass 21 branches and more than 140 sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City in addition to three camp sites and an upstate conference center. The New York YMCA Camp is seeking qualified candidates who will assist Counselors with cabin and program duties. The Junior Counselor, under the direction of a Senior Counselor, will oversee a cabin and groups of campers in daily camp activities. S/he will lead, motivate and provide a safe camp program which fosters children’s social, spiritual, physical, and intellectual growth. Responsibilities: • Provide a physically and emotionally, safe, clean, and healthy environment for the campers in your cabin. • Assist Counselors in providing a safe, healthy enjoyable and beneficial experience for campers. • Assist the Counselor with supervision of the campers in the cabin. • Be a consistent role model for staff and campers. • Assist in teaching the assigned activities; motivate campers to participate in organized, safe, and fun activities. • Communicate any concerns or problems relating to campers, or facility, to your immediate supervisor. • Participate in the planning and running of special activities and inter-camp programs. • Provide cabin and table coverage as needed. • Assist in creating strong cabin unity through shared experiences, nightly vespers, and daily teambuilding. • Recognize and acknowledge good behavior throughout the day, and notify your Division Leader of any very good, or consistently good behavior. • Work with your campers to keep the cabin clean, and to tidy up during “cabin clean up”. • Follow camp policies and procedures, at all times, while performing your duties. • Meet with your Division Leader weekly to discuss your performance, agree upon areas for improvement, and to address any of your inquires. • Help to plan and prepare campers to participate in evening programs, chapels, and campfires. • Assist with one inter-camp committee. • Actively participate in “Special Event Days” and weekly staff meetings. • Other duties as assigned, including setting up campgrounds, cabins and program areas. Qualifications: • Minimum 17 years of age. • Must be responsible and caring and enjoy working with children and being outdoors.

Salary Information: $145.00 P/W
