We are located in northwestern New Jersey just outside the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, one of the last true wilderness areas in the northeastern United States. Job Description and Required Certifications: Overview: 460- acres of ridges, valleys, ponds, streams and trails cover the property of YMCA Camp Mason. We are located in northwestern New Jersey just outside the 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, one of the last true wilderness areas in the northeastern United States. This setting affords us almost limitless opportunities to engage in outdoor adventure and promote living well together. The Landsport Director is directly responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the camp’s sports programs and activities, including but not limited to: managing counselor specialists, teaching classes, ensuring the proper maintenance of the camp’s athletic facilities and equipment and ensuring that the athletics program is safe and enjoyable. The position requires commitment to the YMCA’s Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Previous experience in playing/coaching a variety of sports, experience working with children, strong leadership and organizational skills, and a positive attitude will contribute to success in this position. The Landsport Director reports to the Program Director. Requirements: • Age 19+ • Current appropriate certifications or recent experience • Previous experience in teaching athletics Responsibilities: • Develop and refine lesson plans for all landsport activities. Ensure that there is an emphasis on skill development, progression and fun. • Coordinate the scheduling and use of sports facilities and equipment • Support the Program Director in planning and executing evening activities and free-time events • Plan and execute rainy day activities • Advise Program Director on athletics staff morale and feedback • Directly supervise counselor specialists to ensure the highest quality program delivery • Maintain, repair, and develop an accountability system for all athletics program equipment and supplies • Assist Camp Director with staff training and development before and during camp • Supervise end of season program area clean up and inventories • Evaluate counselor specialists • Other duties not specifically addressed in this document but deemed necessary by the Camp or Program Director Compensation, Benefits & Housing: Shared housing and cafeteria style meals are provided. Salary is commensurate with experience, starting at $2,000. Workman’s Compensation Insurance provided to all staff.
