MILD ADVENTURE CAMP COORDINATOR Camp Name: YMCA of WNC Mild Adventure Camp Camp Location: Asheville, NC Camp Description: Adventure Camp for ages 8-12 offering traditional adventure camp activities Sponsoring YMCA: Child Care Services YMCA YMCA Location: Asheville, NC Job Description and Required Certifications: The Mild Adventure Camp Coordinator (MACC) is responsible for the planning and supervision of daily activities in a trips-based summer camp program for youth ages 8-12. This position will supervise a group of children both on-site at YMCA facilities and off-site in backcountry settings, including state and national forests, swimming holes, and camp sites while ensuring a safe environment for participants at all times. The MACC is responsible for the transportation of children to off-site location in a regulation school bus. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and are preferred to have a Bachelors or Associates degree with at least 15 hours of credit in education and two years of experience working with children in a camp or child care setting. Incumbents will have understanding and knowledge of children, their behavior, and development. This position requires strong communication skills, logistical skills, and organizational skills related to administrative tasks, plus creativity and energy for daily implementation of summer camp programming. Incumbents will be required to have CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Outdoor Water Safety and/or a Lifeguard certification, and Wilderness First Responder, or incumbents must complete these courses during staff training prior to the first day of summer camp. A CDL is highly preferred. Staff must be available to start training the week of May 17th, with some weekend training required. Camp runs from June 4th through August 16th and preference will be shown to those applicants that are available to work the entire summer. Salary Information: $10.50-$13.00/hr.
