Camp Description: The New York YMCA Camp serves a diverse group of children composed mostly of New York City children in a globally diverse community built upon the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Our goal is for each child to enjoy safe adventures, make new friends and have joyful experiences every day. The New York YMCA Camp is located on 1,100 forested acres 86 miles northeast of New York City where New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania share a border.

Job Description and Required Certifications: The New York YMCA Camp, located in upstate New York, is seeking a qualified individual who will be responsible for the day to day operations of equestrian programs, including preparation of program and training ranch staff. RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure the health, safety and well being of participants in the program by providing close supervision of all equestrian activities. Assist with the day-to-day operation of equestrian programs. Supervise assistant ranch staff during activity periods; help them to improve their skills as instructors. Ensure the well being of the horses. Coordinate and schedule equestrian activities within the weekly schedule. Communicate schedules and any changes to camps. Ensure appropriate staff to camper ratios, for supervision, is maintained. Ensure the barn is organized and keep an inventory of all supplies. Responsible for all equestrian equipment. Monitor and maintain all equipment in good working order. Maintain all trails. Feed, water and tend to the horses needs. Assist with evening programs, chapels and campfires. Assist Village Director with evaluations of Counselors. Actively participate in all designated meetings. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Four years of experience in riding, western style preferred. Six weeks of experience supervising or managing a horseback riding facility. Experience working with children, preferably in a camping or residential environment. Riding instructor certification from a nationally recognized organization or endorse document of successful experience in formal horseback-riding instruction. Experience in a summer camp program is a plus. Knowledgeable in all aspects of job, including ACA and health department standards. On-site residence required.
