RESIDENT CAMP COUNSELOR- CAMP INDEPENDENCE Camp Name: Camp Independence Camp Location: Ingleside, IL Camp Description: Camp Independence is specifically designed for children and young adults with spina bifida. Campers have fun while climbing the tower, singing around the campfire, paddling a boat, and making new friends. Campers are shown that even though they have a disability; they can be anything they want to be and are provided with an environment where they can be successful. Sponsoring YMCA: Camp Independence YMCA YMCA Location: Ingleside, IL Job Description and Required Certifications: JOB SUMMARY: YMCA Camp Independence is a camp for children and adults with spina bifida. This is a summer seasonal resident camp counselor position for Camp Independence. This camp will serve campers aged 7-adults who have spina bifida. The resident camp counselor position will be in a 1:1 ratio or a 1:2 ratio with a camper(s). Responsibilities will include some lifting and assisting in personal care of each camper. Examples might include but not limited to; toileting, showering, lifting, dressing, etc. Each week will host 16 campers. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of campers. Demonstrate leadership and actively participation in programs, skill periods, and other camp related activities. Serve as a program instructor and provide campers with a positive and wholesome role model. REQUIREMENTS: Must have high school diploma or equivalent work/education experience. They must also possess a strong interest, maturity, and judgment in working with children. Knowledge and experience in camp related activities. Good moral judgment.
