Camp Description: South Mountain YMCA Day Camps provide a safe and enriching environment for campers to participate in healthy, developmentally-appropriate activities and learning experience. If you are interested in youth development and making a difference in your community, please feel free to apply for a seasonal summer day camp position with our YMCA. Most seasonal positions may become year-round full or part time employment with our organization. Many of these positions are available at any of our 14-day camps with daily hours ranging from 7am to 7pm for both full and part time. The application process is lengthy, so please apply early. Most camp positions are filled before mid-May with interviews starting as early as January for some positions. The Ys camp season runs from July 1st - August 30th. All hired staff will need to attend a minimum of 30 hours of pre-camp trainings on some evenings and most Saturdays in June. Higher level camp positions also require pre-camp planning as part of the position requirements.

Job Description and Required Certifications: FT Senior Counselors (18 yrs and older) - Senior Counselors are responsible for supervising Junior Counselors and camper groups, implementing day-to-day activities, assist in the planning of special events and camp activities, leading daily swim lessons, engaging children in activities, and communicating concerns and issues to parents and directors. Applicants must have prior experience in staff leadership and excellent customer service to provide parents and campers. Must be willing and able to get into the water to assist in swim lessons daily, after being trained by YMCA lifeguard staff. Employment Application Process: (1) Applicants submit application. (4) Directors arrange in-person interviews with selected top candidates. (5) Background and reference checks are performed. Please understand that we interview several hundred candidates for our seasonal camp positions and are not able to inform all applicants of the status of their application or post interviews.
