Job Description and Required Certifications: The Edwardsville YMCA is looking for an experienced, organized, creative and self-driven program director with a passion for summer camp! Our summer program is designed with a day camp structure that provides a summer full of fun memories for school age children ages 5 to 13 from the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon area and surrounding communities. This is an amazing opportunity for individuals with leadership, managerial and inter-cultural communication experience! This position requires problem solving, leadership, public relations, customer service, imagination and a lot of enthusiasm. Candidates must have strong leadership skills and exceptional communication ability in order to manage and support his/her team. Must have a flexible schedule to work a 40 hour week during the hours of 6am-6pm, Monday-Friday, while summer camp is in session, from May 20 through mid-August. Will work part-time prior to camp starting for planning and staffing needs. The Edwardsville YMCA will consider applications from great Summer Camp Director candidates available for summer only, as well as candidates looking for continued year-round YMCA employment. While currently a part-time position, this opening has the potential to become full time through additional child care programming opportunities. Responsibilities and Duties: The Summer Camp Director is responsible for the overall structure of the day camp program, i.e. activities, staff scheduling, office management, etc. This includes: 1.Setting up training in coordination with Branch Director for summer on-site staff. 2.Supervising all day program staff and volunteers. 3.Coordinating with the Branch Director, Program Directors and staff members to ensure that all aspects of the summer program are safe, fun and effective. 4.Organizing and scheduling weekly program sessions and activities. 5.Plans program goals and monitors day program progress. 6.Offers support, encouragement and enthusiasm to staff members as well as program participants. Education Some College Experience 3 - 5 Years Experience Qualifications 1.Pursuing or completed Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university, preferably in education, child development, or recreation related discipline or equivalent experience. 2.Minimum 3-5 years experience in supervising camp programs and staff or equivalent experience 3.Basic programming skills including related enrichment activities in one of the following fields: health & wellness, youth/adult sports, or school age programming. 4.Ability to plan multiple programs while leading and directing staff to execute multiple programs and activities. 5.Excellent writing, communication and computer skills 6.Must possess a sensitive and enthusiastic ability to foster positive relationships with a diverse group of employees, volunteers, children and parents. 7.Articulate effectively with all employees, members and participants. 8.Proven success in supervising and developing staff of all ages. 9.Experience working with kids ages 5-13. 10.First Aid and CPR certifications 11.Must pass criminal background check Physical Demand 1.Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children's activities. 2.Must be able to use a computer. 3.Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation. 4.Work will be performed indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel. 5.Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously and handle tension and a stress in a positive manner
Salary Information: $14-16/hour. The hourly pay rate is commensurate with experience and may be negotiable.
