Camp Description: Since 1914, Camp Loma Mar has offered a rich tradition of values programming in a wonderful outdoor setting in San Mateo County. Loma Mar is located in the Santa Cruz Mountain range, 15 miles south of Half Moon Bay and just 10 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. Generations of campers have enjoyed the fun and excitement and the great outdoors in this beautiful, pristine setting. Camp provides children new and exciting experiences, positive role models, an opportunity to challenge themselves, and a chance to spend a portion of their summer actively learning in a fun and safe outdoor environment. Camp Loma Mar held the earliest ragger programs, a leadership development activity that teaches values and builds character.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Position is primary onsite leadership staff person for year-round camp facility with 288 beds and must provide a strong day-to-day presence among the staff, partners, volunteers and guests. Ensure that the safety of program participants and staff is always our top priority. Responsible for marketing and outreach to increase revenue growth through increased conference and retreat bookings as well as increased summer camp & program enrollments Hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate all assigned staff which currently includes Business Manager, Group Services staff and Summer Camp staff. Direct summer camp program, including program management in line with current program design, program development, hiring and staff training and program implementation and management to ensure the program meets established goals and objectives and provide high quality experiences, supported by regular participant evaluations. Coordinate conference and retreat bookings to ensure programs are offered as desired, resulting in excellent guest experiences evidenced by post event evaluations. Facilitate strong communication among and between all departments at Camp Loma Mar and Camping Services operation. Work in partnership with the Executive Director of Camping Services to create and manage the annual operating budget for Camp Loma Mar. Provide lead role with volunteers including leadership to committees and fundraising efforts Promote collaboration with other agencies, schools, and other organizations and work closely with current Camp Loma Mar partners and YMCA of the East Bay branches. Direct and manage branch wide efforts for continuous operational improvement. Oversee administrative activities. Participate as a member of the YMCA of the East Bay and Camping Services management team, participating in meetings, retreats and other related activities as directed. Serve as a role model of YMCA leadership and the mission and character values of the YMCA. Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and three or more years of professional camp experience or equivalent. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in the areas of safety, organization and planning, staff leadership and supervision, program development, financial development, volunteer development, marketing, communications, fiscal management and training. This position requires excellent relationship building skills for work with staff, members, and volunteers; excellent organization and leadership skills; ability to train/coach; strong oral & written communication skills; planning skills and experience; and problem-solving skills. The candidate must think strategically, be customer-focused, and be able to lead change. S/he must be effective with diverse populations, be results-driven, strike an effective balance between patience & determination, and be able to collaborate effectively. The candidate must be able to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved in day-to-day operations. S/he must guide or direct all actions within a continuing consciousness of the operating objectives of Camping Services. Additionally, Requires at least three years experience supervising, training and developing staff, or equivalent, with strong skills in this area. Requires strong decision making, problem solving and supervision skills Must have strong skills in quality program development and management. Requires excellent computer skills and the ability to manage information systems. Experience in budgeting and writing reports. Experience working with grants highly desirable. Requires valid Drivers License and personal vehicle. Current CPR, First Aid and waterfront lifeguard certifications required within 6 months of hire. ] Experience and/or certification in ropes course, climbing and related equipment preferred Background in/understanding of YMCA strongly preferred Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. This position involves physical activity such as carrying, lifting up to 50 lbs. on occasion and the ability to walk long distances with elevation changes of more than 60 feet. This position must be able to lead groups through uneven terrain for a minimum of a five mile hike.
